FAQ
1. What makes your approach different from traditional nanny agencies?

Our approach fosters a respectful connection between families and caregivers, steering clear of the impersonal processes typical in traditional agencies. We're dedicated to assisting you throughout the process, striving to help families "build their village." We understand evolving needs and provide guidance accordingly. Plus, we charge a one-time fee, ensuring no charges are deducted from our nannies.
2. How many nannies and babysitters are part of the network, and how are they selected?
Our team is always growing. At the moment, we have around 50 nannies and babysitters in our Network, selected based on their qualifications, experience, and shared values in child-led care (read more here (open yellow for nannies)).
3. What languages do the nannies speak?
Our nannies are multilingual, covering over eight languages to meet the diverse needs of international families. Approximately 50% are Portuguese, fluent in both Portuguese and English, while the remaining 50% bring linguistic diversity from around the world.
5. How do you handle last-minute replacements or emergencies?
We've established a system for last-minute replacements and emergencies, ensuring families receive prompt support and consistent care. With our approachable and efficient team, parents often turn to us with last minute requests. We are quick to act and we transparently strive to meet their expectations. Additionally our nannies can ask on our group chat if there is anyone available to cover for them in case of illness etc - as long, as the family agrees and is interested in this.
7. How does the network facilitate communication and collaboration among nannies?
We offer a platform for nannies to communicate, collaborate, and support each other through shared recommendations, information, and playdates. Our network regularly shares workshops, courses, and recommendations. Nannies are encouraged to ask questions, make friendships, and overcome the potential loneliness associated with their profession.
4. Can you tell me more about the child-led methods of education that the network supports?
We champion gentle, child-led methods prioritizing development and well-being, fostering a nurturing learning environment. Most of our nannies follow a loose approach to the Montessori method, and we also have nannies who embrace Waldorf and Reggio Emilia methods. Additionally, we share with our nannies the values of the Educaring method (RIE approach), emphasizing respectful caregiving, treating children with dignity, patience, and trust.
6. Do you assist in creating employment contracts between families and nannies, or should we seek legal advice for that process?
The Nannies of Lisbon Network does not handle estimated monthly or yearly costs, contracts, or additional charges (such as a 13th-month payment, taxes, etc.), as these factors vary based on the preferences of each nanny and family. If you decide to create a contract with the nanny, it is advisable to consult with a legal professional, as the network does not provide legal support.
8. How is the network beneficial for nannies in terms of work opportunities and community support?
Nannies in our network benefit from increased work opportunities, and the community support fosters a collaborative environment for sharing wisdom and experiences. Nannies always have our support and are free to reach out to us at any time.
